I do, what I do, because birth, and the time around birth, is a crucial time for families. Expectant parents deserve excellent preparation and support so that they can have better health outcomes and more satisfying experiences.
In 2007 I trained to teach birth classes with The Bradley Method® and was soon certified as a birth educator and doula and have taught hundreds of expectant parents using this approach since then.
Since 2009 I have been helping families to preserve the memories of one of their life's most important days with birth photography, as I support them as a birth doula. I also support families postpartum and photograph fresh 48 and welcome home sessions.
Since 2015 I have also been a birth assistant with BirthCare in Alexandria where I help certified nurse midwives (CNMs) and families give birth safely at home and in the birth center.
I have a special interest in support for NICU families (two of my four children needed NICU care). I am experienced with unmedicated birth of twins, many successful VBACs (vaginal birth after cesareans), as well as induction of labor and cesarean section.
We are a former Army family who kept our 808 (Hawaii) area code to remind us of the tradewinds, the 'Ohi'a lehua blossoms, and where our first child was born.
My husband and I have been raising our family in the Reston/Herndon, Virginia area since 2006. With our four children, we enjoy the pandemic hobbies of fox and hawk watching, practicing our Spanish, and learning Arabic.
I’ve supported families as a doula at Washington Hospital Center, Virginia Hospital Center, Inova Fairfax Hospital, Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, Inova Alexandria Hospital, Inova Loudoun Hospital (The Birthing Inn and The Natural Birth Center), Reston Hospital, Ft. Belvoir Community Hospital, Walter Reed National Naval Medical Center, GW Hospital, Holy Cross Hospital, Shady Grove Hospital, BirthCare Birth Center, Premier Birth Center, and at home.
